Designed to aid in discovering interproximal and occlusal caries that might otherwise go undetected, the lightweight Midwest Caries I.D. detection handpiece uses proprietary LED and fiberoptic technology to positively identify caries using two clear signals: a visual signal on the tooth as well as an audible tone. The handpiece can help locate caries in pits, fissures and interproximal areas on posterior teeth that have not been restored.
Said to deliver an unmatched level of detection that can help clinicians craft and deliver improved patient treatment plans, the caries detection handpiece also locates lesions and decalcification in x-ray-adverse patients.

The Midwest Caries I.D. uses fiberoptic technology and light-emitting diodes to accurately detect cavities-even when lesions are in their earliest stages. The device emits sound and light signals when a cavity is detected, enabling us to locate, diagnose, and treat the affected area and avoid unnecessary work on healthy tooth surfaces. When used as a diagnostic aid in conjunction with an x-ray, the Midwest Caries I.D. allows us to assess a third dimension-the volume of caries- before even beginning to open the cavity. The device also provides us with an option for examining and diagnosing children, pregnant women, and patients who prefer to forgo x-rays or limit their exposure for health reasons.
